【Report】 Shikasu "About the implementation of art workshops"

On Thursday, November 24, we observed the efforts of the "Mirai Art Seika Project" of Shikasu, an organization that is active mainly in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City.

Shikasu is an organization of Kyoto Seika University students who are engaged in activities aimed at expanding opportunities for local children and the elderly to experience art, focusing on holding art workshops at children's halls and day service centers in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City.

This time, an art workshop was held at the Kyoto City Harano Children's Center to design an original bag using acrylic paints and stone.

The children who leave school take turns receiving an explanation of how to make it. First, put red, white, blue, and yellow acrylic paints on the palette and create your favorite color. Next, you will color the stones of various sizes that you brought with you, and stamp them with colored stones on a white cloth bag. After that, let it dry for about 30 minutes and it's ready.
During the work, the students listened to the children's voices, such as "I want to make this color" and "I want to use a stone shape like this," and worked on it while paying attention to each individual.
You can learn the characteristics of art materials that you don't usually use, how to make and paint colors, and make original things, so it seems to be very popular not only with children but also with facility staff.

Each time this art workshop is held with the staff of each facility in advance and after the fact, it is held according to the situation and needs of the users.

We hope that art workshops will continue to deepen exchanges and collaborations between universities and students and the local community.

On August 6 (Sat) and 7 (Sun), the Keihoku Utsu Treasure Search Association, an activity circle that aims to revitalize the region through searching for local treasures (nature, people, technology, tradition, history, etc.), held the "3rd Children's Festa in Utsu" in the Uzu area of Keihoku-cho, Ukyo-ku, Kyoto City. I would like to introduce the report I received from two of the activity members.

This project is an ongoing initiative with the aim of disseminating the charm of Utsu as a "treasure" inside and outside the region by having students gather in the Uzu area and engage in various initiatives while interacting with local residents, discovering the goodness and rarity of the area that local residents have not noticed through their knowledge and youthful sensibilities.

This is the fourth year of the Keihoku Utsu Treasure Search Association. Toward the revitalization of the Uzu region, based on the activities of the past three years, various initiatives are being made this year as well. Please take a look.

【Report】 Ochanoko-kai "Shirakawa Minna no Jizo Basin"

On Saturday, August 27, the Ocha-noko-kai and local organizations collaborated to go to the "Shirakawa Minna no Jizo Basin" held in Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto City.

This year's Jizo Basin was designed to provide an opportunity for local residents to participate in the event, such as holding workshops with local children from the preparatory stage to make Jizo to display at the venue with the aim of implementing a Jizo Basin that transcends the boundaries of the region (town) by utilizing the environment of the Shirakawa River, such as along the road and on the water.

On the day of the Jizo Basin, there were various old games, a snack corner such as shaved ice, a corner where you can experience the tea ceremony, etc., and the venue was crowded with many children and adults, and it was a great success for everyone to enjoy.

【Report】Ritsumeikan University Camo Cinema Executive Committee "Kamo Cinema"

On Saturday, August 20, I went to the outdoor movie screening "Kamo Cinema 12" planned and operated by the Ritsumeikan University Kamo Cinema Executive Committee.

Kamo Cinema is an outdoor screening event held on the riverbed of the Kamogawa River in Kyoto, which is now in its 12th year as an event that "connects" people with people, people and movies, and people with the Kamo River. In addition to holding outdoor screenings, they also participate in cleanup activities with the goal of "bringing Kamogawa cleanup activities closer to more people and having more people participate."

On the day of the event, a clean hike was held for about one hour from 3:30 p.m. before the film screening, followed by an outdoor screening from 7:30 p.m.

This year's film is "Natural Kokekko." From the opening at 18:30, people gradually gathered, and in the end, about 200 visitors turned their attention to the large screen installed next to the Kamo River and enjoyed the movie.

【Activities】Fushimi Fukakusa-Higashitakase River Environmental Protection and Jizo Basin Project

We would like to introduce the activity report of the Jizo Basin held in Fukakusagawa Kubocho on August 20 (Sat) and 21 (Sun) from the "Ryukoku University-Higashitakasegawa Environmental Protection and Jizo Bon Project Team", which continues its activities in the area around Higashitakasegawa, Fushimi Ward.

"A quiz rally around the town" planned by students connected the elderly and children.

I was worried that last year's Jizo Bon did not have many elderly people participating. Therefore, we have realized the revitalization of the community through multi-generational participation through the "Quiz Rally around the Town".

Thinking about who is important to have a sense of crisis on a regular basis due to disasters and to check the location of fire extinguishers in the town as a disaster prevention measure, we proposed exploring the town with a quiz rally, using the location of fire extinguishers in this town as a point.

The children search for the homes of elderly people in the neighborhood from the letters placed in the red fire extinguisher containment box. The children challenge the "theme" prepared by the house. Children and students go to the homes of elderly people who are hesitant to say "The Jizo Bon venue is far away…", challenge the "theme", and if it goes well, a reward is given.

First, introduce yourself and get to know each other. That way, you can greet them when you meet them on the street from now on. When children can greet each other, the number of "strangers (suspicious people)" decreases, and adults also change "children in our town" from "children in our town". In other words, if face-to-face relationships are created, selfish thinking and attitudes will decrease.

As a result of this "Quiz Rally Around the Town", there was a response from the elderly. "I was very happy to see so many children and students at the entrance," "I was energized by the students and children," "I'm not an executive, but please help with the event," and "Even if I didn't go to the Jizo Bon venue, I was excited to wait for this year."

I realized that it is important to have fun at town events, but it is also important to create face-to-face relationships. I am very grateful to the people of Kawakubo Town who entrusted the planning and management to us students and happily accepted us.

If this kind of involvement spreads, community development will become more enjoyable, and as a result, it will lead to the revitalization of the local community. Through this activity, we, the students, were able to learn about local activities practically with a sense of accomplishment. In the future, when I live with my family, I hope to practice this kind of activity somewhere.

【Activities】Shirakawa Minna no Jizo Bon

We would like to introduce the initiatives received from the "Ochanoko Association" adopted this year.

The Ochanoko-kai is a group of student volunteers attending universities in Kyoto who collaborate with local organizations and other groups to consider the possibility of community development through the tea ceremony.
In this project, based on the actual situation in the region where the Jizo Basin, which is an "intangible cultural heritage connecting Kyoto," is declining, we will aim to establish a modern Jizo Basin that inherits the functions and culture of regional exchange. To that end, we aim to utilize the environment along the Shirakawa River and on the water to implement a Jizo Basin that transcends the boundaries of regions (towns).

On Saturday, August 27, we plan to hold a Jizo Bon festival along the Shirakawa River that everyone can easily participate in, and there will be a program that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, such as workshops where you can experience the tea ceremony.
Why don't you look at the Shirakawa River and join everyone's Jizo Bon while relaxing and cooling off in the evening?
