FY2019

Outline of the event

Main

2040 The shape of the university and the shape of the staff

The environment surrounding higher education in Japan continues to change at an unprecedented speed, such as the acceleration of economic and social globalization and changes in the industrial structure accompanied by rapid progress in the fields of AI and IOT, as the number of 18-year-olds, who are the main students who go on to higher education, is further decreasing. It is extremely important to develop human resources who can contribute to the maintenance and development of a sustainable society while responding to such changes in the environment, and higher education institutions are increasingly required to fulfill this role.
In March 2017, the Central Council of Education received a consultation from the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology on the "Future Vision for Higher Education in Japan", and in November 2018, the "Grand Design for Higher Education for 2040 (Report)" was issued. With the aim of achieving higher education that can flexibly respond to such changes, the report has been broadly summarized into six items, including "Outlook for 2040 and what higher education should aim for," and specific measures are being considered in the future.
At this SD Forum, I would like you to think and discuss together the various problems and issues that you are facing in that era, based on such trends in the country and roughly imagining the environment where universities will be located in 2040.
