Overview of the business

Approximately 50 universities and organizations that are members of the University Consortium Kyoto offer unique lifelong learning courses. This "University Relay Course," which started in 2016, is held at Campus Plaza Kyoto in a relay format by each university in order to let the public know about various unique courses that make use of the characteristics of each university, other than the courses previously provided to Kyoto College.

In the Neolithic period in Europe, megalithic ruins called stone circles were born, and in the Jomon period of Japan, megalithic ruins called Banza-Banzai were born. Megalithic sites in Europe did not become gardens, but in Japan they developed into Japan gardens. We will explore its background and characteristics.

"Denkyo Daishi Saisumi and Mt. Hiei -As the mother mountain of Japan Buddhism-"

Denkyo Daishi Saisumi opened the Tendai sect and made Mount Hiei a place of training. Later, many of the founding Buddhist masters Japan such as Hōran and Shinran, studied at Mount Hiei. We will think about the teachings of Saisumi and Mount Hiei, which nurtured many monks and is called the "mother mountain of Japan Buddhism."

The picture scroll "Kobo Daishi Gyojo-e" in the Toji collection vividly talks about the life and achievements of Kobo Daishi Kukai, mixed with tradition. While reading this picture scroll, which was compiled mainly by famous monks of Toji Temple, I would like to approach the charm of Kukai.

The Onin War caused enormous damage to Kyoto. How did Kyoto recover after being burned to the ground? During the Warring States period, Kyoto had a city that responded to turbulent times, far from the image of Miyabina Kyoto. Let's get a glimpse of Kyoto unique to the Warring States period.
