Influence of Residential Garden Environment and Decrease on Urban Biota in Kyoto City

Research representative

Shozo Shibata (Professor, Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies, Kyoto University)

research summary

Based on the research results obtained last year, this year we evaluated the effects of the characteristics of residential gardens and the continuity of greenery, which are one of the elements that make up the greenery of urban areas, on the biota of the city block. The role played by residential gardens in the conservation of urban biodiversity in Kyoto is shown.

Specifically, analysis of the continuity and area change of green spaces using GIS, a survey of residents regarding the biota in the target area, and the results of a planting survey in a newly set area within the target area will be combined. By comparing them, we will evaluate the green potential of the residential garden from a multifaceted perspective.
