As Akutagawa Prize-winning author Ichikawa Sao has pointed out, many social barriers still exist for people with disabilities to enjoy reading.
Educational institutions also face numerous challenges, including a lack of accessible learning materials, delays in digitizing support services, insufficient coordination between libraries and disability support offices, and an underdeveloped system for sharing accessible learning materials.
This training will provide an overview of the legal system and latest initiatives related to barrier-free reading, and consider what kind of responses and collaboration are possible in educational settings.
Reading is both the gateway to learning and the foundation of education. Creating an environment where all students can access the information they need in the form they need is an important mission for university officials.
Through this workshop, let’s consider concrete steps toward a future of accessible books.

14:50

break

15:00

Barrier-free Reading Workshop

16:15

summary

16:30

Closing

10.
