It is extremely important to develop human resources who can contribute to the maintenance and development of a sustainable society while responding to such changes in the environment, and institutions of higher education are increasingly required to fulfill this role.<br \/> In response to a consultation from the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in March last year entitled &#8220;Japan&#8217;s Future Vision for Higher Education,&#8221; the Central Council of Education has been deliberating on the ideal form of higher education that should be aimed at society around 2040 from a medium- to long-term perspective, as well as the direction of system revisions to realize it. Against this backdrop, I would like you to think about and discuss the various problems and issues that the university is facing at that time, while imagining the environment in which universities will be located in roughly 20 years.<\/p>\n<dl style=\"width: 50%;
