It was attended by 11 participants from 5 universities.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4437 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.consortium.or.jp\/wp-content\/uploads\/international\/4436\/DSC08074-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"DSC08074\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.consortium.or.jp\/wp-content\/uploads\/international\/4436\/DSC08074-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.consortium.or.jp\/wp-content\/uploads\/international\/4436\/DSC08074-120x90.jpg 120w, https:\/\/www.consortium.or.jp\/wp-content\/uploads\/international\/4436\/DSC08074-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><br \/>\nIn the training, following an icebreaker, participants deepened their understanding of Active Learning (Active Learning refers to a learning approach that emphasizes student engagement and participation, as opposed to the one-way transfer of knowledge typical in lecture-style classes. It incorporates methods such as project\/problem-based learning (PBL), discussions, and presentations). They also learned common phrases used in English-based classes. Various expressions were introduced for classroom instructions and for introducing Active Learning, with the suggestion that faculty members choose and utilize expressions that can be used naturally in their classes.<br \/>\nNext, participants experienced methods for group discussions and workshops, examined strategies for designing effective discussions, and explored effective feedback and evaluation methods in classes using Active Learning. They shared examples with one another and concluded with group presentations.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4438 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.consortium.or.jp\/wp-content\/uploads\/international\/4436\/DSC08122-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"DSC08122\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.consortium.or.jp\/wp-content\/uploads\/international\/4436\/DSC08122-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.consortium.or.jp\/wp-content\/uploads\/international\/4436\/DSC08122-120x90.jpg 120w, https:\/\/www.consortium.or.jp\/wp-content\/uploads\/international\/4436\/DSC08122-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><br \/>\nDuring this training, participants noted challenges such as the difficulty of identifying universally effective strategies due to differences in academic fields and class sizes, and how to motivate Japanese students who are not accustomed to presenting in front of others from a young age. Nevertheless, despite the long duration of the workshop, all participants actively engaged in exchanging ideas for improving classes and discussing practical approaches to lesson design.<br \/>\nThis was the first time that the University Consortium Kyoto had conducted an English Skill-Up Training exclusively for faculty members.
