4th FD joint training program/thematic training Thinking about university-specific first-year education ~ Using one university’s practice as an example ~

“FD Joint Training Program / Thematic Training” targets new teachers, teachers who want to relearn the basics of FD, teachers who are interested in FD, and staff working in FD-related departments, and provides IR and report guidance. This is a small-group training program aimed at acquiring skills and knowledge such as seminar/laboratory management, first-year education, lesson design, and lesson practice. A total of five sessions will be held in 2023.

The 4th event will be held with the following contents. We look forward to the participation of many university-related people.

4th Thinking about university-specific first-year education ~ Using one university’s practice as an example ~

First-year education is expected to facilitate a smooth transition from high school to university and strengthen students’ motivation to learn. In recent years, the number of students who are unable to adapt to university studies has been increasing due to the accelerating changes in society, such as the further advancement of information technology, and the accompanying diversification of the academic abilities and learning skills of new students. Therefore, in first-year education, it is necessary to consider the design of learning after accurately understanding the problems that current students face in learning. In this training, a lecturer who has been involved in building the university’s first-year education will give a lecture on the efforts to date, and afterward, participants will exchange information with each other to help build the university’s unique first-year education. We would like to use this as an opportunity to consider the necessary perspectives and methods.

“Transformation of classes in elementary and secondary education through the GIGA School concept. What should we think about the future of universities from this point of view?” Now accepting applications for participation

In primary and secondary education, the GIGA School Initiative is creating an environment in which each learner can learn using an information terminal and a network connection, promoting Japanese-style education in the Reiwa era. About three years have passed since the GIGA School, we will explain the current changes in classes mainly at elementary and junior high schools, using cutting-edge examples.
Based on these, I would like to think with you about how the university environment (classes, research, student life) will change in the future.

The fourth thematic training session of this fiscal year, "Are you evaluating the achievement of the test and goals?", will be held as follows.

Have you ever experienced that students are not good at regular exams, or that the content is terrible when they are assigned report assignments? The teaching ability of teachers is most evident in the evaluation tasks. Preparing excellent assessment tasks not only enhances students' learning outcomes, but also improves the quality of the class as a whole, such as reviewing the goals described in the syllabus and reviewing the teaching methods. In this training, in addition to the learning goals at the subject level of the subject in charge, we will discuss how to create exams and assignments that can evaluate the achievement of the learning goals at the curriculum level.

We look forward to receiving applications from many of you.

3rd "Basic Knowledge of Study Support for Students with Disabilities" are now being accepted

The FD Joint Training Program and Thematic Training is a small-group training program aimed at acquiring skills such as basic knowledge of FD, creation of syllabi, lesson design and practice, active learning, and grading for newly appointed teachers, teachers who want to relearn the basics of FD, faculty members who are interested in FD, and staff working in FD-related departments. In fiscal 2021, a total of six sessions will be held online (Zoom).
The third thematic training session of this fiscal year, "Basic Knowledge on Study Support for Students with Disabilities," will be held as follows.

Currently, the number of students is diversifying, and each university needs to provide study support to various students. In particular, the need for study support for students with disabilities has been strengthened by the enforcement of the Act on the Elimination of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities in 2016. The revised bill was enacted in 2021, and the provision of reasonable accommodation, which was previously only available to national and public universities, has become a legal obligation for private universities (until now, it has been an obligation to make efforts).
In this training, students will first learn basic knowledge about "disability" and then outline the current situation of support for students with disabilities at universities. In addition, this will be an opportunity to think about the basic knowledge and specific measures for study support for students with developmental disabilities, which has been increasing in recent years.

We look forward to receiving applications from many of you.

【For faculty and staff】 Applications for the FD Joint Training Program and Thematic Training
2nd "Learner-Centered Class Workshop" are now being accepted.

The second thematic training "Learner-Centered Class Workshop" will be held as follows.

From the perspective of independent learning, regardless of the field or field, there is a need to shift from conventional one-way knowledge transfer classes to learner-centered classes. "Active learning" is considered to be one of them.
In this training, you will learn about the effects and problems obtained from examples of active learning with an eye on the after-corona era. In addition, through workshops, students will create and mutually evaluate actual lesson design plans incorporating active learning. This year as well, we hope to exchange information on how to ensure independent learning amid the corona disaster.

We look forward to receiving applications from many of you.
