[English training for university faculty and staff] Recruitment of participants for “Intercultural understanding and communication in English at university” held on 9/2 (Sat.) and 6 (Wed.)

Purpose of the event

 As the globalization of higher education accelerates, such as the enhancement of support for international students and the promotion of collaborative projects with overseas universities, English proficiency is essential as a basic skill for university teachers and staff. In addition, international students from many countries and regions have their own cultural backgrounds, and in order to achieve smooth communication, it is essential to understand customs, social conventions, religion, etc. beyond language skills. It has become a thing.
 For this reason, the Consortium of Universities Kyoto conducts training to improve English proficiency through case studies that assume various situations, as well as “skill improvement training for university faculty and staff” to learn about cultures other than English-speaking countries.

This time, as part of the 2023 “Skill Up Training for University Faculty and Staff” , we will hold an online English course as follows for faculty and staff mainly involved in international education-related work and acceptance of international students at universities. Please join us.

 

Course outline

Business English Literacy : Intercultural Understanding and Communication in English at University”

This course is mainly for faculty members who are involved in international education-related work and acceptance of international students at universities.
Mannerisms and methods of communication vary greatly between cultures. In this course, students will deepen their understanding of cultural diversity, communication styles, business etiquette, etc. , in order to respond to the increasing number of international students and foreign researchers . We aim to improve communication skills in English through role-plays and PBL (problem-solving exercises) in various settings.
*The language used in the course is English.

Participation capacity 18 people *Pre-registration required
Participation fee University Consortium Kyoto member university faculty and staff: 2,500 yen per course
Faculty and staff at non-member universities: 6,000 yen per course
*Payment will be made in the form of a bank transfer to the Foundation’s designated account by the designated date.

Please refer to the following levels. (* TOEIC score is a guideline)
Beginner level: Can make simple greetings and self-introduction. A short and simple answer is possible. (Those with TOEIC 550 or lower)
Intermediate: Can explain familiar topics. You can continue the conversation by asking the other person questions. (For TOEIC 550-800)
Advanced level: Can express one’s opinion clearly. Be able to exchange opinions and discuss a wide range of topics.  (Those with TOEIC 800 or higher)
