Kyoto Creative Research Project for the Future (Think Tank Project)

Overview of the business

By utilizing the creative and academic research results of university researchers in the policies and projects of Kyoto City, we aim to return the knowledge of university research to the local community and society. Researchers and the departments in charge of Kyoto City have been collaborating on research since the planning stage, and we aim to form a network based on the surveys and research of this project by holding report meetings on the results of this research and holding exchange meetings between researchers and citizens, city officials, students, etc.
This project ended in fiscal 2015.

Designated projects (3)

Designated Project 1: Research on sustainable "food management" to realize employment of people with disabilities

Theme Research on sustainable "food management" to realize employment of people with disabilities
Principal Investigator Kimihisa Furumura (Associate Professor, Faculty of Business Administration, Kyoto Sangyo University)
Research Outline (Purpose of the research) With regard to "employment of people with disabilities by companies", which has not been fully functioning so far, we aim to disseminate the employment of people with disabilities in the "field of food" in Kyoto City through practical (action research)
in addition to theoretical research.
(Contents of the research) (1) Previous research surveys and case studies: Conducted
various case studies of multiple companies and social welfare councils that have a track record of employing people with disabilities in the field of food (2)
Action research: With the support of businesses with a proven track record in "food management", Conducted
action research on restaurants that create products that are accepted by general consumers while employing people with disabilities at KYOCA. (3) Hold lectures based on (1) and (2) to transfer know-how related to the employment of people with disabilities to businesses in Kyoto City.

Designated Project 2: Research on the Utilization of Perceptual Psychology in Improving the Riding Environment of Bicycles

Theme A Study on the Utilization of Perceptual Psychology in Improving the Riding Environment of Bicycles
Principal Investigator Akika Kitaoka (Professor, Faculty of Letters, Ritsumeikan University)
Research Outline (Purpose of the research)
In order to alleviate the fear of cycling on the roadway and to guide the bicycle in a natural way by obeying traffic rules, such as preventing reverse direction driving and observing stops, we conduct design development research using the methods of perceptual psychology (optical illusion, trompe l'oeil, etc.) and cognitive psychology.
(Research content) (1) In order to prevent reverse direction driving, we have developed a design that can be recognized as reverse direction driving at a glance when driving in the wrong direction, and present it on the road surface or in an appropriate place. (2) In order to promote stops, we have developed an image hump from the perspective of a bicycle and installed
it just before a stop or in an appropriate place. (3)
To reduce the fear of driving on
the roadway, Immediately recognized by automobile drivers that part of the roadway was used for bicycles, and developed and installed a design that discourages entry.

Achievement report meeting and exchange meeting

In addition to holding a report meeting to widely disseminate and share the results of the five surveys and research projects adopted in fiscal 2015, the following exchange meetings were held to promote exchanges between researchers beyond the boundaries of universities and laboratories and between researchers and citizens, students, administrative officials, etc.
At the report meeting, each researcher reported the results of their surveys and research with enthusiasm.
At the exchange meeting that followed, the history of this project over the past five years was reviewed, and then a variety of participants, including researchers, civil servants, students, and NPOs, went beyond the framework of their research themes and talked openly.
Thank you to everyone who participated.
