Common Library Browsing System

overview

The common viewing system is a system that allows you to primarily view materials held by the libraries of member universities and junior colleges of the University Consortium Kyoto, simply by presenting your ID card (student ID card, faculty ID card, etc.).
*Please note that some university/junior college libraries are not participating.

The common reading system aims to revitalize education and research and improve user services by taking advantage of the number of books and characteristics of each participating university and junior college library. A number of consortium-type common viewing systems have already been implemented in other regions, and the mutual use of the systems through simple procedures has been highly praised by users.
Please note that the terms of use (start date of operation, method of use, hours, services provided, etc.) differ depending on each university library, so please refer to the “University Consortium Kyoto Public Interest Incorporated Foundation Common Reading System List of Participating University/Junior College Libraries” in advance. Please be sure to check the “Usage Guide”. We look forward to your active use.

At the University Consortium Kyoto, in order to build a common browsing system that goes beyond the framework of national, public, and private universities, we established the Common Reading Project within the Library Joint Project Review Committee since fiscal year 2003, and have been working on concrete initiatives. The outline was compiled in May 2005, and the idea of starting a common viewing system was proposed and approved at the Board of Directors/Council meeting held on October 22 of the same year.

Confirmation procedures when using the common viewing system

If you wish to view materials with certainty, we recommend that you use the “Collection Survey and Viewing Request Form.” Using a unified format simplifies procedures at the libraries of member universities and junior colleges of the University Consortium Kyoto that are participating in the Common Reading System, allowing users to use the library more reliably and faster than before. Individuals cannot apply for this document, so please apply in advance at your university library.
