Kyoto Student Festival Project Overview

Business Overview

The Kyoto Student Festival has been held every October since 2003 in the area of Heian Jingu Shrine and Okazaki Promenade, and is a student-produced festival planned and operated by university students studying in Kyoto, the city of students, and this year marks its 24th anniversary. It is a rare initiative in Japan that is planned and operated by the Kyoto Student Festival Executive Committee, which is organized by students from Kyoto, and is backed up by Kyoto Prefecture, Kyoto City, economic organizations, universities, and local communities under an “All Kyoto” system. In addition to planning and managing the day of the festival in October, various initiatives are being implemented throughout the year, such as participating in local events, exchange planning, and volunteer activities through the original creative dance “Kyoen Sodefure!”.

The 24th Kyoto Student Festival Theme

About the theme

By expressing and experiencing “Kyoto” from each angle, visitors and people living in Kyoto create an opportunity for each person to think about Kyoto, and to want to know more, like Kyoto, and want people to love it.

The 24th Kyoto Student Festival Annual Activities

The Kyoto Student Festival Executive Committee expresses its gratitude to the Okazaki area, the venue of the Kyoto Student Festival, and the local people who have been connected with us through past activities, and builds a cooperative relationship for this festival. Aiming for a “festival” that is loved by the community and rooted in the community, we carry out daily activities throughout the year together with the local community.

Community Exchange

We participate in local festivals and events as volunteer staff, interact with local people and children, and conduct night patrols once a month to protect the safety of the Okazaki area, where the festival is held, and to deepen interaction with local people. We aim to revitalize the region and deepen exchanges with local people so that more people in Kyoto can learn about the Kyoto Student Festival. In addition, we hold “partner exchange meetings” as a place to interact with sponsoring companies to promote exchanges between students and working adults.

international exchange

We are engaged in exchange activities with international students studying in Kyoto. We convey the charm of Kyoto to international students, and on the contrary, we also learn various things from international students and give each other inspiration. We plan to hold an exchange meeting with international students again this year.

Presentation and delivery class

We have performed the creative dance “Kyoen Sodefure!” of the Kyoto Student Festival at various places in and outside Kyoto Prefecture, and have given lectures (commonly known as delivery classes) at elementary, junior high, and support schools in Kyoto Prefecture. By engaging with many generations of people in the community through the dance, it will lead to the revitalization of the region.
Last year, we received many requests, including performances at Kyoto Hannaries and performances at the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo.
Please check the details and requests for dance performances and delivery classes from the following.

Recruiting new executive committee members!

Recruiting new executive committee members

“Is there love there?” There is love for Kyoto at the Kyoto Student Festival.

I am working hard day and night to create a fourth festival following the Aoi Festival, the Gion Festival, and the Jidai Festival.

It has been said for a long time that Kyoto, the city of universities, and Kyoto, the city of students,
Taking advantage of Kyoto’s strengths as “students” and “universities”,
From Kyoto to Japan, from Kyoto to the world.
Since 2003, without interruption,
Through the Kyoto Student Festival held in the Heian Shrine area every October,
We convey the charm of Kyoto.

Many students beyond the boundaries of the university are struggling,
You can change what doesn’t work, and you can create what doesn’t. and,
Even if we clash with each other, we will raise each other,
It’s normal to disagree because you aim for something better.
Through planning and management, in order to create a new culture and future of Kyoto,
We are struggling to create a festival unique to Kyoto that connects to Mirai.

And after overcoming many difficulties and finally making it through,
There is a sense of accomplishment that cannot be expressed in words.

Impressions and smiles from the executive committee members gathered from universities all over Kyoto,
I want to share it with everyone involved who supports me,
I am working hard today.

What drives Kyoto is the ideas of the students. It’s a real love for Kyoto.
Love is the best. Love for Kyoto is the most.

For 2026, the Kyoto Student Festival is looking for new friends.
