FY 2018

Event Overview

■Theme of the 16th Kyoto Student Festival

The Kyoto Student Festival, which began in 2003, successfully completed its 16th year. This festival is planned and run primarily by the Kyoto Student Festival Executive Committee, an organization made up of Kyoto students, with support from Kyoto Prefecture, Kyoto City, economic organizations, universities, and the local community, making it a unique initiative nationwide. The
Executive Committee not only plans and runs the Kyoto Student Festival in October, but also actively engages in year-round exchange activities, including planning exchanges using the original dance created at the festival, “Kyoen Sodefure!”, and participating in local events.
In 2018, the 16th year, the theme was “Connecting Today,” and we worked hard to connect the Kyoto Student Festival with the rest of Kyoto, promote the charm of Kyoto to the nation and the world, and pave the way for the Kyoto Student Festival to continue into the future, with its 20th and 30th years.

16th Main Festival Implementation Plan

While preserving the traditions of the 15 Kyoto Student Festivals, as a new step towards the 20th event, we aim to create a festival that conveys the charm and potential of the completely new Kyoto Student Festival that is unique to the 16th festival. We
have incorporated more visitor participation-oriented projects than ever before and introduced new ways of presenting and enjoying each content, so that the festival will allow people to experience the new charms of the Kyoto Student Festival. We have also worked towards the goal of making the Kyoto Student Festival a festival that is more deeply rooted in the local community, loved, appealing to students, and more widely accepted by students, and becoming one of the “Four Major Kyoto Festivals” to rival the three major Kyoto festivals.

In addition to local Hong Kong groups, the parade also featured invited groups from overseas, including Kyoto Student Festival Kyoen Sodefure!, French cabaret music and dance, and a Dutch street circus.
This time, Kyoen Sodefure! The performance is a special version of the “Kyoen Sodefure! Student Support

Student Development Programs

At the University Consortium Kyoto, we support the daily activities of students based on the principle that they should “take the initiative in creating things,” and we hope that the “interactions” and “experiences” they come into contact with through these independent activities will lead to new “awareness” and “learning,” which will contribute to the students’ growth.
Specifically, we treat student activities as a single project, and each department works toward a single goal, incorporating the PDCA cycle methodology that focuses on producing results, with the goal of smoothly carrying out activities, improving projects, and continuously developing them. We have been working to create a system that encourages student growth by promoting the following support methods.

The PDCA cycle at the Kyoto Student Festival (Photo: from the 16th festival)

Implementation Report

The 16th Kyoto Student Festival concluded successfully on Sunday, October 7th, with many visitors in attendance.
Although we were concerned about whether this year’s main festival would go ahead due to the effects of the typhoon,
the day was blessed with a beautiful, almost scorching autumn sky, allowing all programs to proceed without a hitch.
We would like to thank everyone who attended and all those who supported the festival in various ways. As part of the
Kyoto Student Festival Organizing Committee, our foundation not only supports the Kyoto Student Festival, but also views the year’s activities as an opportunity for student growth and provides year-round support. Visitor surveys indicated that year-round efforts did not necessarily lead to a direct increase in attendance. However, we believe that the experience gained over the past year has led to increased student confidence and learning. As we approach the 17th festival, we will continue to develop a system to support the executive committee. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who attended the event, as well as to everyone who provided support in various ways to make this event possible.
