Purpose of establishment
In recent years, university collaborations and university consortiums, which involve collaborations with local communities and industry, have been gaining momentum across the country. Collaborative education and research that transcends universities has now become a part of university education as a form of education.
Furthermore, university consortiums, which are regional organizations established based on the history, location, and characteristics of their local communities, as well as universities rooted in their local areas, are an effort to foster deep ties between higher education institutions and local communities, promoting university development and revitalizing the region.
Today, higher education is expected to meet global standards for quality assurance, and education and research are being evaluated by society. In other words, there is a demand to create distinctive education and research that meets society’s diverse educational needs.
In this era, university consortia, an important system constituting higher education worldwide, have the potential to realize new learning opportunities that are only possible through collaboration, and to return knowledge to society.
In this context, we have established the National University Consortium Council, with the aim of developing collaborative education and research in Japan, which is still in the development stage, and by converting the “regional power” that has been cultivated in each region into “organizational power,” we hope to provide a new forum for research exchange where content can be shared with each other.
