FY2013

Overview of the business

By utilizing the creative and academic research results of university researchers in the policies and projects of Kyoto City, we aim to return the knowledge of university research to the local community and society. Researchers and the departments in charge of Kyoto City have been collaborating on research since the planning stage, and we aim to form a network based on the surveys and research of this project by holding report meetings on the results of this research and holding exchange meetings between researchers and citizens, city officials, students, etc.

Research Theme Knowledge of coexistence with the natural environment in citizens' lives and evaluation of the actual situation of familiar biota
Principal Investigator Professor, Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies, Kyoto University Shozo Shibata
Research Outline Presenting knowledge of coexistence with the natural environment and the actual situation of familiar biota nurtured in citizens' lives through household questionnaires in the Shirakawa River system, field surveys at the Shirakawa Children's Festival, questionnaires to temples and shrines on wildlife trends, field surveys of damage to forest vegetation (mainly by deer), and surveys of townhouse gardens. Based on this, we proposed the creation of a support framework between the departments in charge of the government and in collaboration with citizens, so that efforts to coexist with the natural environment that take root in citizens' lives will lead to the creation of charm of Kyoto-like towns.
