(6th) 2014 Kyoto Study Lecture “Traveling in Kyoto – A Sightseeing Gaze”

joy of travelKyoto after the middle of the Edo period is often said to have become a tourist city. According to travel records, sightseeing in Kyoto at that time was centered around visiting shrines and temples, just like today. At the same time, in Kyoto at the time, there were various shops, restaurants, and performances of various performing arts. The existence of these facilities and performances is thought to have been one of the joys of travel for those who visited Kyoto. In this lecture, I would like to introduce these situations while showing concrete materials.

Teacher Hiroyoshi Yamachika (Professor, Osaka Kyoiku University)
Born in 1960. Born in Hyogo prefecture. He studied at the Faculty of Letters and Graduate School of Kyoto University. After working as an assistant at the Faculty of Letters, Nara Women’s University, and as a lecturer and assistant professor at Osaka Kyoiku University, he assumed his current position in 2005. His field of expertise is historical geography.
