Purpose of establishment
In recent years, university collaborations and university consortia have been promoted throughout Japan, involving partnerships with universities, local communities, and industry. Collaborative education and research that transcends individual universities has now become a significant part of higher education.
Furthermore, university consortia, established not only by universities rooted in their local communities but also as regional organizations based on the history, location, and characteristics of the region, represent a deep connection between higher education institutions and local communities, contributing to both university development and regional revitalization.
Currently, higher education is subject to global standards of quality assurance, and education and research are subject to societal evaluation. In other words, there is a demand to respond to the diverse educational needs of society and create distinctive education and research.
In this era, university consortia, a crucial system constituting higher education globally, have the potential to realize new forms of learning and the return of knowledge to society that are only possible through collaboration.
In this context, and with the aim of promoting collaborative education and research in Japan, which is still in its developmental stages, we established the “National University Consortium Council” based on the idea of providing a new platform for research exchange where content can be shared by mutually supporting organizations, by transforming the “regional strengths” cultivated in various regions into “organizational strengths.”
