Malaysia and Penang Intercultural Understanding Training Program

Business Overview

This program is a short-term overseas training program that has been newly started in FY2024 as a program that is easy to participate in as well as those who have studied abroad in the future, as well as those who are thinking about studying abroad in the future or have never experienced overseas before.
With recent changes in the socio-economic situation, the cost of studying abroad in Western countries and Oceania is high, and the number of students giving up on studying abroad is increasing.
On the other hand, studying, exacting, and experiencing various experiences abroad during your student days will not only improve your language skills, but also improve your understanding of different cultures and diversity, and improve your ability to think and solve problems on your own.
Based on these factors, the University Consortium Kyoto chose Penang, Malaysia, which is relatively safe, affordable, and has many friendly pro-Japanese families, as the training destination, and conducted the “Malaysia-Penang Cross-Cultural Understanding Training” in March 2025.
In Malaysia, three main ethnic groups (Chinese, Malay, and Indian) coexist, and English is used as a quasi-official language. Penang Georgetown, which is the venue for the training, has long flourished as a hub for East-West trade, and its historic cityscape is registered as a World Heritage Site. Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), which is the base of the training, is one of Malaysia’s leading national universities, where students receive lectures on Malaysian history, culture, ethnicity, etc., as well as conduct fieldwork. During the training, local students accompany you as buddies, further promoting cross-cultural understanding and interaction between students. All lectures are conducted in English, but they are conducted in English that is easy to graduate from high school. On the last day, the participating students will give presentations in English about what they have learned in Penang.
We are implementing and planning it as a valuable experience for your student days, so please take this opportunity to participate!
