Business Overview
This program is a short-term overseas training program that began in 2024 as a program that is easy to participate in not only for those who have studied abroad, but also for those who are thinking about studying abroad in the future, and those who have never experienced overseas before.
Due to recent changes in the socio-economic situation, the cost of studying abroad in Europe, the United States, and the Oceania region is high, and an increasing number of students are giving up on studying abroad.
On the other hand, learning, exchange, and various experiences abroad during your student years will not only improve your language skills, but also improve your understanding of different cultures and diversity, and improve your ability to think for yourself and solve problems, which will give you valuable experiences in your future career development and life planning.
Based on these considerations, the University Consortium Kyoto has chosen Penang, Malaysia, which is relatively safe, inexpensive, and has a large number of friendly pro-Japanese families, as the training destination, and in March 2025, we conducted the “Malaysia-Penang Intercultural Understanding Training.”
In Malaysia, there are three main ethnic groups (Chinese, Malays, and Indians) who live together and use English as a semi-official language. Penang George Town, where the training takes place, has flourished as a key point of east-west trade since ancient times, and its historic townscape is registered as a World Heritage Site. Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), one of Malaysia’s leading national universities, is one of the leading national universities in Malaysia, where students will receive lectures on Malaysian history, culture, ethnicity, etc., as well as conduct fieldwork. During the training, local students accompany students as buddies, further promoting cross-cultural understanding and inter-student exchange. All lectures are conducted in English, but they are conducted using easy English equivalent to that of a high school graduate. On the last day, the participating students will give a presentation in English about what they have learned in Penang.
We are conducting and planning this event as a way to gain valuable experience during your school days, so please take this opportunity to participate!
The briefing session on the 2024 Malaysia-Penang Cross-Cultural Understanding Training can be viewed from the archive. The outline of the implementation for FY2025 is scheduled to be released in mid-October.
