“What makes Kyoto so appealing?” “What kind of country is Japan?” Why not experience traditional Japanese culture and learn the know-how of English presentations so that you can introduce it in English when asked by people from overseas?
Students preparing to study abroad, interested in studying abroad in the future, or who want to explain Kyoto and Japan to overseas audiences in Japan, or who feel uncomfortable giving presentations in English! Why not enjoy learning English with like-minded peers across university boundaries?

🌸🌸 Overview 🌸🌸 of “Presenting Kyoto in English”

Through a tour of a temple in Kyoto and an experience of Japan’s traditional culture, we will conduct a total of six half-day training sessions to acquire the ability to give presentations in English.

◎ Training Days and Scheduled Content (6 sessions in total):

1. May 25 (Sat):

(1) Ice Break, Introduction to Japan and Kyoto ~Learning About Japan and Kyoto in English~
(2) Learn expressions related to Japanese traditional culture in English

2. June 1 (Sat):

Temple tour (Shogoin Gate Ruins) and walking around the city of Kyoto

3. June 8 (Sat):

Traditional Culture Experience I. (1) Tea Ceremony Experience (2) Tea Ceremony Culture in English

4. June 15 (Sat):

Traditional Culture Experience II (1) Flower Arrangement Experience (2) Talk in English about Kyoto’s famous landmarks, events, clothing, food, and accommodation in Japan and Kyoto, and education

5. June 22 (Sat):

(1) International Student Sessions (2) Group Activities

6. July 6 (Sat):

Personal Presentations

◎ Time:

13:30~17:00 (with break)

◎ Location:

Campus Plaza Kyoto, etc. (Mobility within Kyoto city depending on training content)

◎ Application Requirements:

Meeting all of the following conditions
1. Must be a Japanese student at a member university or junior college of the Kyoto University Consortium [No restrictions on enrolled programs (undergraduate, master’s, doctoral)]
2. Ability to participate in all training sessions
3. Your English score must meet one of the following criteria:
IELTS 5.0 / TOEFL iBT 50 / TOEIC 600 or above / Eiken Grade 2 or higher
4. Interest in international exchange and cross-cultural understanding

5,000 yen (for reference materials and practical exercises, total for all 6 sessions)
* Please pay in cash on Saturday, May 25, for the first round (as much change as possible).
* Please bear any transportation costs related to travel during the course.
