Competition Program

Screening of selected films and talk shows
by directors and executive committee members: 12 films in 5 programs (7 in Japan, 5 overseas)

Special Event (1) Leading up to "Tsumiki no Ie"

Animation artist Kunio Kato is now known all over the world. Films ranging from his student days to Tsumiki no Ie will be screened, and two films will be selected and screened: one animation that Kato has recently seen that he found particularly interesting, and one selected by the festival executive committee.
In addition to the screening, Mr. Nobuyuki Tsuken, who is active as an animation researcher, will also come to the venue and hold a talk show by "Student × Hisao Kato × Nobuyuki Tsuken".

Special Program (2) Cross-border People ~Special Screening of Chemical Films & Art Films~

It features science films and artistic films such as experimental films and abstract films. Seventeen gems from Japan and abroad, from classical works to works by up-and-coming filmmakers, will be screened under the theme of "crossing borders," that is, transcending boundaries.

Special Event (3) What is a student?　―Silent Youth Film Katsuben Screening―

A screening of Yasujiro Ozu's pre-war college comedy by Yasujiro Ozu by the youngest katsubenshi Asoko Yatsuma, who was a university student until this fall.

Pre-Project in KIF

Implementation Report

The 12th Kyoto International Student Film Festival was held at Kyoto Cinema on November 21 (Sat) ~ November 27 (Fri), 2009 14:00~21:00. During the exhibition, a total of 20 programs were held, and many visitors attended.

In each program, in addition to screenings of works by student artists, talk shows were held between the executive committee members and student writers, and secret stories that cannot be understood just by watching the works, such as the backstory of the production, were unfolded, and the students felt the fun of the works from the perspective of students, which is a bit different from box office films.

In addition, many domestic and foreign artists visited Japan, and opportunities were provided for interaction with the executive committee members, and the largest student film festival in the Japan created by the executive committee and the artists together ended with great success.

We would like to express our gratitude to everyone who came to the venue, the student artists who submitted their works to this festival, and all the people who supported us in various ways to hold this festival.
