【Kyoto International Student Film Festival】25th Archive (Japanese)

Overview of the business

 The Kyoto International Student Film Festival is the largest international student film festival in the Japan, which is mainly planned and operated by university students from the Kansai region, mainly in Kyoto. The purpose of this program is to gather independent films produced by students from all over the world, review them by the executive committee, create opportunities for students to screen them, and discover human resources and talents who will lead future films.
Historically Japan Kyoto is a "city of movies" that still inherits the cultural heritage of the early days of cinema, and it is also a "city of universities and students" where students account for 10% of the population of Kyoto City. This festival aims to revitalize Kyoto by discovering and introducing talents who can add new fields to cinema from among the many possibilities of the world, thereby creating a place for international exchange and mutual understanding.

Implementation Report

The 25th Kyoto International Student Film Festival discovers young talent who will lead the film industry of the future. It was held for three days from Friday, February 3 to Sunday, February 5, 2023 at The Museum of Kyoto Film Theater. In addition, it was distributed on the video sharing site "Vimeo" for 10 days from February 10 (Friday) to February 19 (Sunday), 2022.
This year's competition received 381 entries from all over the world, from which 16 films carefully selected by the Student Executive Committee were screened. At the award ceremony held on Sunday, February 5, the winning director and the final judges, Mr. Isshin Inudo and Mr. Lee Fighter-o, were invited as guests, and Ms. Chie Hayakawa announced the Grand Prix and Semi-Grand Prix, the Final Jury Award, and the Executive Committee Award via video message.
At the award ceremony, we received comments from the final jury, and we were able to create a place for international exchange and mutual understanding through film.
The award-winning works are as follows: I wish the young coach all the best for his future success.

Last year's Grand Prix film screening at Kyoto International Film Festival 2022 2022.10.14 (Fri) Last year's Grand Prix
film "Intermezzo" was screened at Hulic Hall Kyoto. After the screening, the executive committee took the stage to talk about the appeal of student films and film festivals, and to announce the final jury.

Pre-Event in Kyoto International Manga Museum 2022.12.11 (Sun)
Featuring manga artist Usamaru Furuya and film producer Yuya Tanaka, the first part screened animation works selected for last year's film festival and the movie "Lychee Hikari Club" written by Mr. Furuya. In the second part, a talk show was held on the theme of "Students, Movies and Manga".

This year, we participated in the film screening project "SHINPA" as well, and last year's winners and video messages from the directors were screened at LOFT9 Shibuya at SHINPA vol.14 and at Kyoto Minami Kaikan at SHINPA vol.15. After the screening, the executive committee members took the stage to promote the appeal of the 25th Kyoto International Student Film Festival.

UPLINK Kyoto ×KISFVF 2023.1.22 (Sun
) The 24th Kyoto International Student Film Festival Final Jury Prize (Yatabe Yoshihiko Award) winner "Difficult Youth" was welcomed and screened. In addition, we promoted the film festival at the gallery of UPLINK Kyoto.

A total of seven films were screened, including Taro Kawasaki's "Donut Hall" and Akiya Miyo's "Difficult Youth," which have been screened in the past at this festival.

Continuing from last year, the Kyoto International Student Film Festival is distributing past selected films so that inpatients can view them from each hospital bed monitor at Kyoto University Hospital.

Recruitment of Executive Committee

The Kyoto International Film Festival Executive Committee is looking for students who will enliven the festival.
This film festival receives a variety of domestic and international submissions. The executive committee is student-led in everything from the recruitment of films to the screening and the operation of the film festival. Through a series of activities such as public relations activities and sponsorship requests, you can learn the know-how of film festival management.
Students from various universities and faculties participate in the executive committee regardless of grade, so friendships expand.
