FY2018

Overview of the business

Since fiscal 2015, the University Consortium Kyoto has been holding SD seminars with the aim of fostering the next generation of university management professionals at each university and junior college, mainly member schools.
Today, when the full-scale arrival of a "knowledge-based society" has been pointed out, the environment surrounding higher education has changed dramatically, such as the declining birthrate, aging population, and progress of globalization, and the uncertainty is becoming even more uncertain. The Central Council of Education's "Toward a Qualitative Transformation of University Education to Build a New Future (Report)" (2012) has high expectations for human resources and academic research that will pioneer the next generation that is difficult to predict, and society's expectations for universities are increasing. In addition, the "Promotion of University Governance Reform (Summary of Deliberations)" (2014), the Organization Management Subcommittee of the University Subcommittee of the Central Council of Education, stated that it is essential to build a governance system that can strategically manage the university under the leadership of the President. SD became mandatory due to the revision of the University Establishment Standards on April 1, 2017 in order to establish "highly skilled professionals" who are well-versed in various fields such as public relations and to constantly improve the skills of university staff.
In light of this situation, university staff are required to have the ability to steer accurately with an eye on the next generation, as well as the ability to accurately analyze changes in the environment and the needs of society, and reflect them in organizational decision-making and social missions in education and research.
