Event Overview
theme
“Future collaboration among higher education institutions” to support the region
– Thinking together about the future of the consortium
Purpose of the conference
Amid regional population decline and changes in industrial structure, higher education institutions are expected to play a more important role than ever before in cultivating highly skilled human resources and revitalizing local communities. The Central Council for Education’s February 2025 report also emphasized the importance of local universities creating attractive learning environments and fostering a “virtuous cycle” in which student interaction fosters attachment and involvement with the local community.
Currently, 40 organizations are members of the National University Consortium Council, and including non-member organizations, there are over 50 university-affiliated organizations active nationwide. While each university pursues its own initiatives in collaboration with the local community, the existence of “consortiums” that bring together multiple universities, government agencies, industry, and other diverse entities is becoming increasingly important not only for the development of universities but also for supporting the future of local communities, particularly regional cities. In
recent years, the formation of “platforms” (places and mechanisms) that enable information sharing and various types of interaction has also become widespread. How to combine a “consortium” that builds an organizational collaborative system with a “platform” that fosters collaboration by theme and is easy for anyone to participate in is becoming a major point when considering future regional collaboration.
This forum will be themed “Future collaboration among higher education institutions that will support the region – thinking together about the future of consortiums,” and we will share the diverse efforts and challenges underway in each region and think together about the new value that collaboration can create.
