FY2017

Overview of the business

As an organizational effort for faculty members to improve and improve the content and methods of classes, the University Consortium Kyoto has been promoting FD activities in the Kyoto area together with member universities since 1995, shortly after its establishment.
The FD Joint Training Program for Newly Appointed Teachers is a training program that complies with the "Framework of Standards for New Teachers" proposed by the National Institute for Educational Policy Research, with the aim of acquiring the knowledge and skills necessary for university teachers.

In fiscal 2015, the scope of participation was expanded to include part-time teachers at member schools.
In addition, although "newly appointed faculty" is listed in the program name, there is no limit to the number of years of service because it is a useful program for teachers at all career stages.
It is possible to participate only on one of the two consecutive days, but we recommend that you participate for two days due to the structure of the program.

【Information】
From AY2018, we plan to significantly change the implementation form of the program (schedule, program structure, awarding of certificates of completion, etc.).

Implementation Report

This year, Program A was held on September 16 (Sat) and 17 (Sun), and Program B was held on February 17 (Sat) and 18 (Sun), with 9 students from 5 universities participating in Program A and 13 people from 7 universities participating in Program B.

Program A

【Training Day 1】
First, Professor Jun Murata of Kyoto University gave a lecture on "Basic Knowledge and Workshop for Learning Support and Special Support." In the lecture, he talked about "what is disability", "the current state of support for students with disabilities at universities", and "understanding and support for students with developmental disabilities". In the workshop, participants formed pairs and gave one person a piece of paper with a figure drawn on it, conveyed the figure only in words, and drew the figure only with the words heard by the other participant, and the participants felt firsthand the importance of communication and how to convey it in an easy-to-understand manner, such as teaching a guideline such as composition first when drawing a figure.

Next, Professor Hitomi Asada of Huading Junior College and Professor Hiroko Hasegawa of Ikebo Junior College gave a "Basic Knowledge and Workshop for Class Design". In the lecture, the importance of creating a syllabus that makes the credit system work was explained, and in the workshop, each participant actually set the "achievement goal" and "grading method" of the syllabus created by each participant from different perspectives and rewrote it appropriately.

【Second
day of training】 On the second day of training, Professor Shinji Matsumoto of Bukkyo University gave a lecture titled "Career Development of FD and University Teachers." He explained the importance of FD while taking up recent trends in higher education, including the report of the Central Council for Education.

Next, Dr. Akiko Nozaki of Kyoto Pharmaceutical University gave a lecture on "Basic Knowledge and Workshop for Learner-Centered Class Management."
While demonstrating the content of the lecture he was in charge of, he explained a method of active learning in which he asks questions to students, and evaluation based on rubrics. In the workshop, participants were divided into groups and first decided on a theme, then asked the students questions about that theme, and then experienced the creation of rubrics.

At the end of the two-day training, four participants who participated in the entire program A program were awarded participation certificates.

Program B

【Training Day 1】
We started with an "icebreaker" by Professor Shincho Shounori of Kyoto Gakuen University. In addition to introducing himself, he shared what he wants to take on new challenges for the next year and what he is struggling to prepare for the next year. The atmosphere was friendly, with smiles and conversations throughout the icebreaker.

After the icebreaker, Akira Mawatari, Deputy Secretary General of the University Consortium Kyoto, gave a presentation titled "Kyoto as a City of Universities and Universities in Kyoto." After explaining the various projects of the University Consortium Kyoto, the participants used worksheets to introduce the founding spirit, educational philosophy, and temperament of their own universities and alma maters, and deepened their understanding.

As the third program, Professor Kazuharu Abe of Kyoto Koka Women's University held a workshop for lesson design. After an explanation on how to use Mandalat, the participants actually experienced Mandarat using worksheets and divided into groups to work on the theme of "What is a good class for students?"

【Second day of training】
First, following the "Workshop for Lesson Design" the previous day, Professor Kazuharu Abe of Kyoto Koka Women's University held a "Practical Workshop on Classes." After the opening explanation, the students were divided into two groups and gave a 15-minute mock lesson per student. Comments were exchanged on the good points of the mock class, the best class was selected, each group gave a presentation, and the whole group reflected on it.

As the final program, Professor Manabu Fujiwara of Ryukoku University gave "Basic Knowledge for Class Design". Under the theme of "What is a good grading?", he explained the points to note in setting grading criteria for better grading, giving specific examples of grading and evaluation methods for sports and competitions regarding academic ability. In the workshop, they used worksheets to discuss the problems and causes of easy winning subjects.

At the end of the training≪, three students who completed all programs of Program A ≫ and ≪ Program B≫ were awarded certificates of completion, and eight people who participated in the entire two-day program were presented with certificates of completion.
