Symposium

Date: Saturday, February 20th, 10:00~12:00

More details about the symposium can be found here .

Can new models of university education, research, and social contributions be created? –
Envisioning the leaders of an AI- and robot-based world based on the experience of COVID-19 –

Capacity: 1,000 people (600 people for member schools)
In the 2020 academic year, due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), preparations for the opening of classes for the new semester were made by individual faculty members groping around and making creative efforts while following the organizational decisions of their respective affiliations. The beginning of this can be seen in a Facebook group with over 20,000 members, “A group to share wisdom and information about what university faculty should and want to do in response to the impact of COVID-19” (the name was changed on October 9th from “A group to share wisdom and information about what university faculty should do in response to COVID-19 class closures”)

Therefore, this symposium will explore the existence and role of universities in a declining population, globalization, and VUCA era based on the experience of COVID-19. One year after the COVID-19 pandemic, we would like to use this opportunity to confirm how collective intelligence through social media has worked, and to explore new literacy in and for universities.

Symposium speakers:
Yoshihiro Okamoto, Professor, Faculty of Law, Kwansei Gakuin University
Koichi Sugimori, Associate Professor, Department of Higher Education Development and Support, School of International Liberal Arts, Kanazawa University Coordinator:
Hironori
Yamaguchi, Professor, Institute for Promotion of General Education, Ritsumeikan University

Implementation Report

Report of the 26th FD Forum [Click here for details]

The 26th FD Forum, “Again, what is a university? Beyond the COVID-19 pandemic, into a new era,” was held online using Zoom for four days on February 20th (Sat), 21st (Sun), 27th (Sat), and 28th (Sun), 2021.
The FD Forum, organized by the University Consortium Kyoto, has been held since 1995 with the aim of improving the quality of higher education and disseminating information on FD activities from Kyoto, and this year marks the 26th time it has been held.
This time, in the unprecedented situation of the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, the overall theme was “Again, what is a university? Beyond the COVID-19 pandemic, into a new era,” to once again question the nature of “universities” and to provide an opportunity to think about “universities” in the next era.
On the first day, a symposium, poster session, and information exchange session were held, and on the second to fourth days, 11 subcommittees with diverse themes were held.
693 university faculty members and education-related personnel from all over the country gathered to share reports on research results and practices on improving education, and engaged in lively discussions.
The symposium on the first day, “Can new models be developed for university education, research, and social contribution? – Envisioning the leaders of an AI- and robot-based world based on the experience of COVID-19,” featured two speakers: Yoshihiro Okamoto (Professor, Faculty of Law, Kwansei Gakuin University) and Koichi Sugimori (Associate Professor, Department of Higher Education Development and Support, School of International Liberal Arts, Kanazawa University) (Coordinator: Hironori Yamaguchi (Professor, Institute for General Education Promotion, Ritsumeikan University)).
