FY2019

Outline of the event

Main

2040 The shape of the university and the shape of the staff

The environment surrounding higher education in Japan continues to change at an unprecedented pace, with the number of 18-year-olds who are the main students decreasing further, the acceleration of economic and social globalization, and changes in the industrial structure accompanied by rapid progress in the fields of AI and IOT. It is extremely important to develop human resources who can contribute to the maintenance and development of a sustainable society while responding to such environmental changes, and higher education institutions are increasingly required to play this role.
In March 2017, the Central Council of Education received a consultation from the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology on “Future Vision for Higher Education in Japan”, and in November 2018, the “Grand Design for Higher Education (Report)” was issued, and from 2040, based on a backward calculation, it will deepen discussions on what must be responded to promptly and move towards reform, and various aspects of society Aiming for higher education that can flexibly respond to changes, it is summarized in six major items, including “Vision for 2040 and what higher education should aim for,” and specific measures are being considered in the future.
At this SD Forum, I would like you to consider and discuss various issues and issues of that era while imagining the environment of universities in 2040, taking into account these national trends and imagining the environment in which universities will be located.
