Symposium 1
March 1 (Sat) 14:30~17:00
New learning with FD×SD
──Exploring a university education that is close to the growth and happiness of each learner──
Capacity: 350 (Priority capacity for member schools: 210 students)
The era when university education could function as a system separate from others is about to pass. Universities need to work more organically with sectors such as primary and secondary education, adult education, and lifelong education to transform into a system that can face the learning of each learner throughout their lives.
In addition, through the use of information systems and distance learning, mechanisms such as microcredentials that guarantee and certify learners’ learning in smaller units are rapidly evolving.
At the symposium, I would like to explore the ideal way of university education in line with the times in which learners learn independently and organize their own learning, based on such awareness of the problem and the current situation.

Symposium
Masahiro Inoue, Project Professor, Graduate School of System Design and Management, Keio University,
Professor Emeritus, Shibaura Institute of Technology (Former Vice President), Visiting Professor, Taisho University

Regions and Universities
-Practice of University Faculty and Staff in Coexistence with the Community-
Capacity: 290 (Priority capacity for member schools: 170 students)
In this session, I would like to discuss what a university should do for the community based on the symbiosis between the university and the community. In addition to faculty members, speakers who are active in various positions will give lectures on the theme of coexistence between the community and the university, and will have a message for the faculty and staff who are responsible for the university. I would like to discuss what we university faculty and staff should do for the community, and what university faculty and staff can do.

Implementation Report

The 30th FD/SD Forum Report [Click here for details]

The 30th FD and SD Forum was held for two days on Saturday, March 1 and Sunday, March 2, 2025, with the main theme of “Supporting Students’ Learning and Happiness with FD×SD” at Ryukoku University’s Fukakusa Campus.
The FD Forum, sponsored by the University Consortium Kyoto, has been held since 1995 with the aim of improving the quality of higher education and disseminating information on FD activities from Kyoto. In recent years, there has been a need to establish an academic management system due to the revision of university establishment standards and the shift to a student-oriented education. In the midst of these changes, the collaboration between faculty and staff is more important than ever. Against this backdrop, from FY2024, the 30th edition of the forum, we changed the name of the forum to “FD/SD Forum” and held it in a form that incorporates SD elements more than ever before.
At this forum, we raised the role of a “team” that goes beyond the boundaries of faculty and staff and supports the learning and happiness of students. It was held completely face-to-face, and it was a two-day day to think about the future of the university together beyond the boundaries of FD and SD.
Over the course of the two days, two symposiums, eight breakout sessions and workshops on various themes, poster presentations and information exchange sessions were held.
372 university faculty members and educators from all over the country gathered to share practical reports and results with the participants, and actively exchanged opinions.
In the poster session held on the first day, a total of 15 educational practice cases were presented by member schools of the University Consortium Kyoto, and a lively Q session took place.
Nearly 100 participants, including those involved, gathered at the information exchange meeting, and it was a lively exchange meeting.

In Symposium 1 “New Learning with FD×SD: Exploring University Education that Supports the Growth and Happiness of Each Learner”, Masahiro Inoue (Project Professor, Graduate School of System Design and Management, Keio University/Professor Emeritus (Former Vice President), Shibaura Institute of Technology/Visiting Professor, Taisho University), Kayo Matsushita (Graduate School of Education, Kyoto University) Professor of the Department of Education and Human Sciences (Higher Education Course) / President of the Japan Society for University Education), and Mr. Keiki Miyakoshi (Vice-Principal, Kyoto City Kaiken High School) (Coordinator: Mr. Tatsuro Tsukiji (Associate Professor, Department of Community Management, Faculty of Sociology, Ryukoku University)).

In Symposium 2 “Communities and Universities: Practices of University Faculty and Staff in Coexistence with Communities”, Mr. Akio Omori (President, Kyoai Gakuen Maebashi International University), Mr. Masami Mori (President, Kyoto Bunkyo University/Professor, Department of Practical Sociology, Faculty of Sociology), and Mr. Hitoshi Miki (Former Director of the Policy Department, Kyoto City University/Director, Glocal Human Resources Development Center, a non-profit organization/Life is Tech Co., Ltd.) Business Development Division) (Coordinator: Hidetaku Shiratori (Professor, Faculty of Life Sciences, Kyoto Sangyo University)).
