【Application Closed】Recruitment of Researchers for the 2016 "University Consortium Kyoto Designated Survey Projects"

The University Consortium Kyoto (hereinafter referred to as the "Foundation") has set designated survey themes and conducts research by researchers in specialized fields with the aim of contributing to the improvement and review of projects, new development, and sophistication. This time, we are looking for researchers (research groups) who will work on the 2016 designated survey projects as follows.

Designated Survey Topics

We are looking for researchers to work on the following designated research projects. We look forward to receiving applications from more researchers. For details, please check the application guidelines below.

"Research on the Role of University Consortium Kyoto, a collaborative organization for university support for students with disabilities"

Background on the theme

The reasonable accommodation provisions of the Act on the Elimination of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities are scheduled to come into effect in April 2016, and since the prohibition of discriminatory treatment of persons with disabilities and the prohibition of "non-provision of reasonable accommodation" are mandatory at national universities and private universities are also obliged to make efforts, expanding support for students with disabilities has become an urgent issue at universities, and the establishment of support offices for students with disabilities and the enhancement of employment support systems are being promoted.

However, there are many issues, such as the fact that each student has a different disability, the needs associated with it are diverse, the need for support that is appropriate for the time of admission, enrollment (study, student life), job hunting, etc., and the need for support across departments within the university.

Currently, each university is accumulating knowledge and examples of reasonable accommodation that should be provided to each university, but there is a limit to the efforts of individual universities alone to respond to a wide variety of disabilities and wide needs, and it is considered necessary to cooperate with related departments and share information.

Therefore, this time, we will conduct a fact-finding survey of the initiatives of the Foundation's member schools and advanced cases in other countries and regions, identify issues, grasp needs, etc., and use this as a clue to consider the role and direction that the Foundation should play in supporting students with disabilities.

Outline of the research sought

(1) Survey on the actual situation of support for students with disabilities at member schools.

・Examples, implementation systems
, issues, etc. (2) Collection of case studies at advanced universities and inter-university collaboration organizations in other countries and regions.

(3) Based on the above, propose specific initiatives that the Foundation, which is an inter-university collaborative organization, should implement in support for students with disabilities.

Image of utilization of research results

(1) Establishment of a collaborative organization that connects university departments, external support groups, and companies and governments that support students with disabilities.
(2) Development of seminars and training programs for members of the Foundation (schools, governments, and economic organizations).
(3) Utilization for students with disabilities in foundation projects involving students.

Qualifications

It is assumed that you meet the following requirements:

・Surveys and research by individuals or groups.

・The researcher (in the case of a group, the principal investigator) must be a full-time faculty member of a university or junior college affiliated with the Foundation.

・Researchers or group members shall have a high level of expertise in the content of the designated research project.

・After acceptance, a contract research contract will be concluded between the researcher's (or the principal investigator in the case of a group) and the Foundation, and the department in charge of the research funds will be managed by the department in charge of the affiliated university. When applying, please coordinate with the department in charge of your university in advance.

"Kyomachiya Nanasai Community" × "Miyako Light"

On Saturday, September 6, Ryukoku University student group "Kyomachiya Nanasai Community" and "Miyako Light", which are the organizations that have adopted this year's academic town collaboration project, collaborated and participated in an event held at Ryukoku University's Fukakusa Machiya Campus.

This project was realized after two organizations that were certified projects last year met at last year's report meeting and deepened exchanges thereafter.

Despite the heavy rain on the day, many parents and children visited the haunted house to enjoy it. Participants carry lanterns that they designed and created themselves and explore townhouses in search of ghosts hidden in the dark. It was fun from the participants! Would definitely visit again! We received many comments such as.

In addition, at the venue, there will be a photo exhibition by "Miyako Light" and "Let's illuminate the townhouse with wonderful things in the town! Various projects were held, such as setting up a corner where participants could ask about wonderful places, people, shops, things, etc. in your town.

By holding this project, "Kyomachi and Shichisai Community" will be an opportunity to further deepen the connection with the local community about the community farm business, which is the main initiative, and "Miyako Light" will be an opportunity to learn about the activities of "Miyako Light" in the future, which will be held on November 7, 8, and 9, and future efforts are expected!

Research is progressing! ~Kyoto Creative Research Project for the Future: From the Field of Surveys and Research~

Each of the surveys and research themes selected in the 2014 Kyoto Creative Research Project is aimed at achieving unknown results. We will introduce the situation at the site!

Kyoto Creative Research Project 2014 Survey and Research Themes Click here for details

Rough Roundtable Meeting between Kyoto Companies and International Students –
Designated Project 3 "Analysis of Employment Trends of International Students After University and Research on Support Measures at Local Governments, Companies, and Universities"

On the evening of February 3, when the research was finally in full swing, a research group led by Professor Kazuhiko Ishihara of the Ritsumeikan University Career Center, who is conducting research, held a rough meeting to deepen mutual understanding between international students and Kyoto companies before job hunting.

At this roundtable discussion, which was attended by 7 Kyoto companies and 25 international students, they were divided into groups and discussed the theme of "Why companies hire international students and what companies do international students want to work for?"
In the rough atmosphere, Kyoto companies expressed their expectations for international students to play a role as a bridge for vitality and overseas expansion, and international students expressed frank opinions about communication based on cultural differences and concerns about Japan's corporate culture.

Through the results of this roundtable discussion and questionnaire survey, we plan to compile proposals on skill development programs for international students and Kyoto companies, and measures to improve the working environment for international students by Kyoto City.

The University Consortium Kyoto has high hopes for research results that will benefit Kyoto companies, Kyoto universities, and Kyoto City!

Conducting Field Survey of Kyomachiya Gardens –
Continuing Theme "Impact of Residential Garden Environment and Reduction on Biota"

Akiko Niino and three other members of the seminar of Professor Shozo Shibata of the Graduate School of Agriculture, Kyoto University, who are conducting the research, are conducting a field survey of the gardens of Kyoto townhouses that are more than 100 years old in the Nishijin area.

In order to clarify the relationship between the distribution of Kyomachiya and old residential gardens and the biota of birds, as part of a questionnaire survey of residents of houses with gardens in Kamigyo Ward's Momozono School District, Mr. Niino led the survey of the gardens of Kyomachiya in addition to interviews with residents.

On Thursday, December 4, the survey was conducted in a light rain.
We carefully listen to the plants in the garden, the types of birds that fly, the care of the garden, etc., and drop them into a diagram.

We will talk to the owner of the garden about the types of birds that fly.

There are things that you can't understand unless you see the site, and Mr. Niino is energetically working on creating new developments by seeing them. This research, which focuses on the spatial distribution of Kyomachiya gardens and the creatures that inhabit them, is unprecedented, and I am looking forward to the results.

Implementation of a collaboration project with Chukyo Machibito Café –
Designated Issue 2 "Creating a place for exchange in the central urban area"

Further trials of the Charonsan Project will continue to create a place where the ideas that jump out from the participants become threads that will weave the future of commerce in Kyoto.

Conducting a Clinical Survey of Municipal Housing –
Free Theme 1 "Spatial Composition and Transition in Municipal Housing and Surrounding Residential Areas in the Suburbs of Kyoto City"

In this survey and research theme, in cooperation with the Kyoto City Housing Development Division, we are trying to clarify the relationship between municipal housing in the suburbs and the surrounding area among the 99 municipal housing complexes in the city, based on (1) the appearance of the building that borders the housing complex, (2) the use of the open space in the housing complex, and (3) the situation of the site boundaries. It is expected that the survey results will be utilized in the future development and reorganization of municipal housing.

On Wednesday, September 17, the principal investigator, Tetsuya Masaki, a doctoral student at the Graduate School of Kyoto Institute of Technology, conducted his third on-site survey of municipal housing in Yamashina Ward. (The past two sessions were held in Yamashina Ward and Fushimi Ward in August)

Properly measure the height and depth of plantings. On the left is Mr. Masaki the principal investigator, and on the right is Mr. Inagaki, a collaborator.

In order to clarify the relationship between municipal housing and the surrounding area, we take photographs of the boundary between the local municipal housing site and the road and the rinsite, and carefully record the dimensions and width of the adjacent road.
We will also check the state of the open space on the site and the status of entrances and exits outside the site.

It is also important what the entrance, which is the boundary between municipal housing and the area, looks like. I will carefully drop it into the diagram.

By analyzing the results of these surveys at multiple municipal housing complexes and materials on the transition of municipal housing, and deciphering what characteristics are observed in the local environment around municipal housing, it will be useful for considering the consolidation of municipal housing stock in the future. In fact, this kind of survey results have never been possible before.

Experiments for creating the future start with the tea room –
Designated Project 2 "Creating a place for interaction in the inner city area"

In this survey and research theme, we will conduct empirical research to foster and form networks of merchants, businesses, and citizens who promote the rediscovery and creation of "regional value" through "creating a place for exchange" that utilizes the attractiveness of local resources accumulated in the city center.

On the evening of Wednesday, August 27, a research group led by Professor Masanobu Nishimura of the Graduate School of Industrial Sciences of Kyoto Institute of Technology in collaboration with the Kyoto City Commercial Promotion Division conducted a demonstration experiment on the development of merchants and citizens and the formation of networks by creating opportunities for exchange.

We will make a tea room out of cardboard. We share the content of the discussion.

A lot of ideas popped up.

In the "Future Session," which was held with the surprising device of creating a cardboard tea room in a townhouse built more than 100 years ago, participants from various attributes such as local merchants exchanged ideas necessary for creating the future of the town with their eyes shining.

Based on these, various entities such as merchants, businesses, citizens, and artists will connect and create a "place" for creation. In a few years, the city may look completely different from what it is now.
