In January 2021, the Central Council of Education submitted a report titled "Aiming to Build Reiwa Japan-type School Education" in order to nurture the qualities and abilities of children who will become "creators of a sustainable society" in a rapidly changing society. The report focuses on "realizing individualized and optimal learning and collaborative learning that brings out the potential of all children." In order for both high schools and universities to improve the quality, diversity, and inclusiveness of education and to develop an education that leaves no one behind, what is required of collaboration and connection between the two, and how should we think about and put it into practice?
The Kyoto High School Collaborative Research Council was established in May 2003 with the aim of overcoming competition between schools and individual interests and fostering human resources unique to Kyoto in the form of industry, government, and academia. Since then, various high school-university collaboration projects have been developed centered on this forum, and FY2022 will be the 20th year of the Council's establishment.
This forum, now in its 20th year, will be an opportunity for the parties concerned to share and think about the realization of high school-university collaborative education that fosters "creators of a sustainable society" as well as to look back on the history of high school-university collaboration and connection.

* In response to the spread of the new coronavirus infection, the Kyoto High School Collaborative Research Council is promoting efforts to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. In the future, from the viewpoint of preventing the spread of infectious diseases, we may change the implementation form of this forum or take measures to cancel it. In that case, we will inform you on this website, etc. Thank you for your understanding.

Katsumi Arase (President, Japan Teachers' Support Organization)
The high school portion of "Aiming to Build Reiwa Japan-type School Education" (Central Education Council's Report, January 2021) is based on the "Working Group on the State of High School Education in the New Era (Summary of Deliberations)" compiled the previous year. It advocates the realization of a high school education that "puts the student as the subject." Regarding the future high school education required by the new Course of Study centered on "inquiry," we would like to summarize the report and deliberations, and consider it based on the 2016 report that recommended revision of the Course of Study.

The final report of the "Survey on Connecting Schools and Society (commonly known as the 10-Year Transition Survey)" (co-sponsored with Kawai Juku), which follows students for 10 years from the second year of high school, has been compiled. Variables such as learning, career, qualities and abilities are investigated from high school to university students, and empirically shows what variables had the last impact on participants in their third year of employment. Ultimately, we will theoretically discuss what kind of school education fosters qualities and abilities for a rapidly changing, problem-solving society.

Ms. Yowako Yamamoto (Professor, Faculty of Industrial Sciences, Kyoto Institute of Technology)
In order to become a "creator of a sustainable society" indicated in the report on "Reiwa Japan-type school education" (2021), how should we plan future high school-university connections (entrance examinations, connected education, etc.) in order to nurture the qualities and abilities of learners in high schools and universities? In the case of the United Kingdom and France, let's look at how readiness of university education is nurtured by high school, and how it is actually connected to universities and society. We will notice the characteristics of Japan's high school-university connections from comparisons with overseas cases, and explore future high school-university connections based on their understanding.
