Overview of the business

Approximately 50 universities and organizations that are members of the University Consortium Kyoto offer unique lifelong learning courses. This "University Relay Course," which started in 2016, is held at Campus Plaza Kyoto in a relay format by each university in order to let the public know about various unique courses that make use of the characteristics of each university, other than the courses previously provided to Kyoto College.

"The Life of Buddha and His Thought"

Instructor: Kan Sasaki (Professor, Department of Buddhist Studies, Faculty of Letters)

We will introduce the original Buddhist thought, which cannot be known just by looking at Buddhism in Japan, while tracing the life of Buddha. It is full of wisdom of innovative ways of living that are useful even in modern society.

"Contemporary Literature and the Power of 'Stories' ~Junichiro Tanizaki, "The Tale of Genji", Haruki Murakami~"

Instructor: Atsushi Nishino (Lecturer, Faculty of Humanities)

Tanizaki Junichiro, in his dispute with Akutagawa Ryunosuke, argued that the Japan literature in which the most "interesting story" was The Tale of Genji. From classic literature such as The Tale of Genji to examples such as Haruki Murakami's "Kafka by the Seaside" and Makoto Shinkai's "Your Name," we will consider the state of "stories" in modern times.

the encounter was very meaningful. I met Dharma, I met Nenbutsu, and I met the main wish of Amida Buddha. Shinran's way of life changed greatly as a result of that encounter. I would like to ask you about the meaning of such an encounter with this application in Shinran.

"Learning Japan Buddhism for the First Time"

Instructor: Yasushi Noro (Associate Professor, Department of Buddhist Studies, Faculty of Letters) Buddhism, which was born in India about 2,500

years ago, has remained the source of inspiration for many people to this day. In this course, we will give an easy-to-understand lecture on the characteristics of Buddhism that were transmitted to the Japan, taking up the thoughts of Saisumi and Kukai, who are representative thinkers of the Heian period, and introducing the works of both of them.

"Wisdom of Oriental Medicine for Healthy and Enjoyable Life ~What is a Seasonal Curing Life?~"

Instructor: Kazunori Ito (Professor, Department of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Director of the Acupuncture and Moxibustion Center)

Curing means "nourishing life correctly" and refers to the oriental medical view of health according to the season. Therefore, in this course, we would like to learn together the oriental medical view of health that is necessary for a healthy and enjoyable life, and think together with you about the tips for living a long life.

Many people may think that Kyoto has few earthquakes. There is also an image that the previous war that occurred in Kyoto was the Onin War. In fact, Kyoto has suffered many fires and earthquakes. We will trace the records of historical disasters through old maps and records, and introduce local disaster prevention education by TUFS students.

"Kumano Studies Course 2018"

Instructor: "Kumano Faith and Kumano Taisha Shrine" Yozo Onari (Kumano Nachi Taisha Miyaji) "Kumano Pilgrimage in the Middle Ages" Taizo Noda (Professor, Department of History, Faculty of Letters)

The university has concluded a tripartite agreement with Nachikatsuura Town in Wakayama Prefecture to promote cultural exchange and promotion activities in various ways. As part of this effort, this course will deliver a history lecture about Kumano by Kumano Nachi Taisha Miyaji, who celebrated its 1700th anniversary in 2017, and faculty members of the Department of History of Kumano University.

"The cane that prevents you from falling is to fall!? ~Health promotion in the future~"

Instructor: Jun Sumimoto (Lecturer, Department of Child Education, Faculty of Contemporary Human Studies)

Let's think about "growth" and "aging" from multiple perspectives about health promotion for children and the elderly <future> from multiple perspectives. While being aware of the similarities between the growth and development of children and the health promotion of the elderly, we plan to introduce "exercise using the mind and body" that can be enjoyed while sitting.
