FY2015

Outline of the event

The concept of the 13th installment is

Thoughts put into the concept…

The Kyoto Student Festival Executive Committee plays a central role in captivating all individual "you" through the "Kyoto" created by students, government, business, universities, and the community ALL Kyoto, rather than taking a broad view of the general framework of those who live and work in Kyoto, students who live and work in Kyoto, students from Japan and abroad, people who have lived in Kyoto, people who have lived in Kyoto, people who gather from Japan and abroad, people who have lived in Kyoto, people who have lived in Kyoto, people who used to live in Kyoto, people who have lived in Kyoto, tourists, etc. While valuing the history and connections built up by our predecessors, we will also approach new layers and fields, and convey the charm of Kyoto to all "you" by transmitting existing charms and new charms. In addition, by increasing the number of fans of the Kyoto Student Festival, we aim to further revitalize Kyoto. ▼ Despite the fact that the

two pillars that support the concept
, internationalization
Kyoto, has about 51,000 registered foreigners and about 7,000 international students studying at various universities, we have not been able to carry out activities that can attract many of them, so Japan students discover the charm of Kyoto together with foreigners throughout the year. While emphasizing two-way learning and understanding, we aim to create activities that make foreigners want to come back to Kyoto and want to learn.

・By promoting the internationalization of 200,000 people involved, we aim to attract new layers and further deepen the relationships we have built over the past 12 years, with the aim of bringing in more than 200,000 people
involved in the 13th Kyoto Student Festival Executive Committee.

Furthermore, in fiscal 2015, with "internationalization" as a major pillar, we disseminated the charms of Kyoto both domestically and internationally in order to "revitalize Kyoto," which is the philosophy of the Kyoto Student Festival.

Student Support

Student Growth Program

The University Consortium Kyoto supports students' daily activities based on the principle of "proactively creating," and hopes that "exchanges" and "experiences" with a wide variety of people they come into contact with through independent activities will lead to new "awareness" and "learning" that will lead to their growth.
Specifically, we have adopted the PDCA cycle method, which emphasizes student activities as a single project, working as a team toward a single goal, and producing results as a team. With the goal of smooth execution of activities, improvement of projects, and continuous development of projects, we are working to create a system that promotes student growth by promoting the following support methods.

PDCA Cycle at Kyoto Student Festival

    • Planning period (around November ~ May): Information gathering, awareness, planning
    • Trial period (around May~September): Pre-planning (medium-sized project imitating the main festival)
    • Verification period (around June~August): Mid-term review meeting
    • Implementation period (October): Implementation of this project
    • Dissemination of results (around October ~ November): Holding post-review meetings and report meetings

・Verification period "Interim review meeting"

Survey of students' growth impressions for executive committee members

Since fiscal 2015, we have measured the growth effect (educational effect) of the executive committee members in the management activities of the Kyoto Student Festival.
We used external assessments and conducted interviews before and after the festival activities to understand changes in correlation with various activities, student characteristics, generic skills, project management skills, etc. by department, position, activity, etc. In addition, after the festival, after having the students reflect on their own activities, we conducted interviews and analyses of characteristic students to objectively, qualitatively, and quantitatively analyze their sense of growth and acquired skills, thereby clarifying how these activities contribute to the growth of students.

Implementation Report

The Kyoto Student Festival, now in its 13th year, aims to further revitalize Kyoto by inheriting the existing charm and disseminating new charm based on the concept of "Kyoto attracts you" and with the two pillars of "internationalization" and "200,000 people involved."
At the monthly international exchange event aimed at the internationalization of the Kyoto Student Festival, many international students participated each time to promote cross-cultural exchange. In addition, the festival features food and beverage booths with the theme of internationalization and a fashion show inviting international student models. It was a project that showed the uniqueness of this year everywhere.
At the first collaborative event with the Fushimi community this year, he set a Guinness World Record ™ for "Kyo Flame Sodefure!" As it was widely covered by the media, "Kyo Flame Sodefure!" spread to new customers, and the festival gained momentum.
In addition, the Tohoku Project, which was launched in fiscal 2013 as part of charity activities, is also being implemented. In addition to energetically working to increase the number of fans during the Japan beyond the boundaries of Kyoto, we held a post-event debriefing session in Kyoto with the aim of "preventing the disaster from fading away" and developed a program with an awareness of disaster prevention in the local community.
At this festival, which is the culmination of one year, the main stage that had been installed in the precincts of Heian Jingu was moved to Jingu Road due to the redevelopment work in Okazaki Park this year. The main stage, with the Ōtenmon gate in the background on the newly reborn Jingu Road, was very popular with visitors, and the audience was fascinated by various performances by students. A powerful stage overlooking the entire venue was used to create a sense of unity for the festival throughout the venue. After all these activities, the number of people involved in the year was 283,205, far exceeding the target.

The Kyoto Student Festival is active under the three principles of (1) disseminating the charms of Kyoto, (2) revitalizing the region, and (3) motivating learning. It is not easy for students to achieve this year's goals while meeting the expectations of stakeholders on a daily basis, and they are moving forward while encountering all kinds of obstacles. As a supporter of this activity, I believe that the process of worrying, thinking, and overcoming by oneself in relation to the surroundings is an experience and learning unique to the Kyoto Student Festival, which other student organizations do not have, and is a "value." In addition to the aforementioned achievements, their attitude of presenting their achievements in a dignified manner at the final achievement report meeting is the result of embodying the fact that these experiences have definitely gained confidence in themselves, and I feel that this is the meaning of supporting the Kyoto Student Festival from an educational standpoint.
We would like to express our gratitude to everyone who came to the festival and to all those who supported us in various ways to hold this festival.
